From sparkling party cakes to glittery and shimmering cakes for weddings and birthday bashes, you've probably scrolled through various striking palettes in magazines, books, or on your Instagram feed.

But how do they create something so magical and glitzy?

We have just the know-how!

Three different effects can make your cakes stand out, from applying luster dust to sprinkling edible glitter & coating your cake with lustrous paint. Each of these products bedazzles your cake with a different look.

Find Your Sparkle With Edible Glitter

Edible glitter can take your decor game up a notch. When sprinkled on tiny flakes of icing, it uplifts the appearance, making it irresistible and impressive. To the onlooker, it almost resembles the captivating sun's rays falling on snowfall and the shimmering colours of the rainbow.

To apply edible glitter, simply sprinkle it on the cake or damped icing, like decorating sugar. Be careful to not let the icing thicken before you sprinkle edible glitter. (You don’t want that). If your buttercream is fresh and smooth, edible glitter will easily stick to the cake surface. In case it dries out, you can always use icing glue for better results.

Make Your Own Luster Dust Magic

If you like trying new techniques instead of the clichéd silver & gold decor, create your own shimmer! Achieve that coveted sparkling palette with every baker’s favourite luster dust.

Luster dust is a flavourless decorative powder used to add that gorgeous shine to baked delights. It's simple to paint on the cake with a dry brush. Combine luster dust with alcohol (vodka is preferred) or an alcohol-based extract such as lemon extract. This will result in an even consistency. Simply combine a few drops of liquid with luster dust to achieve the desired consistency.

Stencils could be your new handy friend in the kitchen to paint luster dust on the cake.

Create A Lustrous Effect With Lustrous Paint

Lustrous paint is a life-like effect created once you mix the luster dust with a small amount of flavouring extract or vodka. You can use a soft brush to paint the dust on a cake’s surface for a dry application.

For a damp effect, you can liquify your luster dust with lemon extract. Check the consistency of the liquid. Then, gently brush your cake with luster dust.

As a cake designer, your social media might require an eye-catching effect for cake decor, don’t fret; we’ve got your back.

Bedazzle your cake with a bit of glitz that adds glamour to highlight your Instagram feed perfectly!

We hope this blog inspires you to experiment with glitter. You can now bake special cakes with maximum gleam and show off your baking skills to the world!
